The Department of Commerce was established during the academic year 2016-2017 offering B.Com Under Graduate Course with 60 students as intake. The curriculum framed by the Bharathiar University is followed by this department which caters to the needs of present-day society. The B.Com course is one of the fast moving and highly viable course in the arts stream and since most of the students are demanding B.Com course for their admission, B.Com Additional Section was started in the academic year 2018-2019 with intake of 60 seats. The duration of the course is three years and students are being taught in the wide areas of commerce subjects like Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Management Accounting, Income Tax Law & Practice, Banking, Principles of Marketing, Auditing apart from skill-based subjects and practical oriented computer applications in business. The Department constantly encourages and supports the students in playing vital role in academic progress, extra-curricular activities, career development and connecting the students in industrial and business community. Apart from regular chalk and talk method of teaching, the Faculty-Members in the Department of Commerce adopts information and communication technology (ICT) method of teaching with a motto of “Educate and elevate commerce graduates for global needs”. To achieve this, all the B.Com students are being guided properly not only in terms of his/her study but also to develop their leadership skills, professional skills and risk management by imparting the value of “where there is commerce, there is a perfection”. Further, in order to learn the unlearned and reach the unreached aspects, the final year B.Com students are taken to education tour to other states of India every year as a part of extension activities of the department.
In addition to curriculum aspects, all the B.Com students are encouraged to take part in Co-curricular activities such as National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross Society (YRC), Sports & Games and Fine Arts Activities. In order to ensure and encourage the Girls students towards their higher education, the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Scheme implemented by the Government of Tamil Nadu is followed in this department. Under this scheme, 37 Girl Students of 2020 Batch, 25 Girls students of 2021 Batch and 41 Girls students of 2022 Batch of B.Com have enrolled based on their eligibility and became beneficiaries to avail financial assistance of Rs. 1000 per month as scholarship. The Government of Tamil Nadu recently launched “NAAN MUDHALVAN THITTAM” for the students of Higher Education Institutions with the motto of encouraging the students “To become MUDHALVAN”. Accordingly, 287 students currently pursuing B.Com., Degree course in this Department have enrolled their name and Faculty team of this scheme constantly encouraged these enrolled students to keep their standards at all levels on par with Global students. Further, these students are motivated by the Department to pursue Add-on Courses such as Tally Package, Tax Laws, GST Filling, Auditing Procedures, Web designing etc.,
